Since 1980, Ohio-based Eighth Day Sound has been at the cutting edge of the global sound reinforcement business with a star-studded client roster of the concert touring industry. Being one of the industry’s leading advocates of digital technology, it is no great surprise that Eighth Day is the first US company to invest in DiGiCo’s new SD7 console. To that end, they’ve added three (3) additional SD7’s to their initial purchase—and to the overall stock of DiGiCo live consoles already in its touring inventory.
“The DiGiCo D5 is one of the most requested consoles by major touring acts,” says Eighth Day’s Executive VP Jack Boessneck. “ DiGiCo is the first word out of engineers’ mouths when they talk about a console that they want or wish they had. With the need to add to our inventory, the progression to the SD7 was a natural move for the company. We know the demand was high for the D5; with the SD7 it should be even higher. Since our initial SD7 console purchase, which is currently out on tour with Earth Wind & Fire, we’ve added another three to our inventory.”
With a host of summer tours already in progress or on the horizon utilizing the new SD7, from the aforementioned EWF to Madonna and The Who ( in addition to others using the D5 including Juanes, 311, Foo Fighters, George Michael) , Boessneck says that, like its predecessor, the SD7’s innovative technology, sonic quality and sheer power are certain to set it apart from other digital options.
“The sound quality is what really sets the SD7 apart. The D5 sounded better then any other digital console in the marketplace; the SD7 sounds even better. Additionally, the SD7 is capable of an incredible amount of inputs and outputs. The processing power is far and above all the competition. The user interface is a continuation of the DiGiCo “touch-set”… and the colors are cool.”
With the SD7’s launch—taking DiGiCo sound technology to a whole new level—and its infusion into the global touring market, that desire to exceed client expectations meant that Eighth Day was keen to invest in the new console.
“We have always been impressed with DiGiCo’s forward thinking and dedication to customer service. The success that Eighth Day Sound has achieved in the sound reinforcement industry is based upon our ability to exceed our customers’ expectations. We feel that DiGiCo has played an important role in our endeavors. The support from DiGiCo is and has always been fantastic. But what would you expect from a “world class” organization that builds a “world class” product?”
About the DiGiCo SD7:
DiGiCo’s SD7 is the first live console to use next generation of FPGA called
Super FPGA for Audio Processing (not the usual DSP platform other console
manufacturers use). DiGiCo was the first company to use Analog Devices SHARC
DSP in its consoles and are also the first to use the next generation called
Tiger SHARCS, which are purely used for Control and Effects.
The SD7 is the most powerful live performance console with a
totally flexible bussing structure with an incredible 128 busses possible,
256 processing paths, plus a 32 x 32 Matrix, 32 x 32 band graphics EQ and a
plethora of internal effects. The SD7 is the only console where not only the
engine fits inside the work surface (as in the D5) but also has a redundant
engine as well.
